Privacy Policy

Last revised: December 20, 2022

I, Kris Maze, know that reading Mystery and Suspense is why you are here. But knowing what happens to your personal information and why I store it at all should never be scary. If at any time you question how your information is handled, please contact me through the contact page and I’ll respond as soon as humanly possible.

In the spirit of any Final Girl, I value your privacy and understand the importance of transparency. The only information I store on my website (krismaze.com) is information that you provide freely.

I respect your privacy SO MUCH, that I won’t even have comments on this site. Want to reach out? Follow me on the social media site of your choice. We can connect there.

My site is protected by SSL which ensures that everything sent to or from my server is encrypted. In addition, I use very powerful security software to maintain security on my site to the best of my ability. Sadly, there are many people who would love to fill any website with spam. My site is no exception.

Anti-Spam

To protect my site from spam, I compare your information with a list of known spam senders using a company called CleanTalk. CleanTalk only stores your information for a few days to give me time to contest its decision whether you are a spammer or not. Just in case you use my contact me page on repeat, instead of like a nice respectful human who isn’t trying to spam my site. Monster.

I use CleanTalk to provide anti-spam services. They are the Jamie Lee to the Michael of the Cyber world. As such, any information you share with this website will be sent to them for the sole purpose of checking it for spam. CleanTalk works hard to keep data sent from the EU in the EU and data sent from other continents on that continent.

Newsletters

I use MailerLite for my newsletters. MailerLite has certified to the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework and Swiss-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework. When you subscribe, I collect your name, IP address (the address of your computer), and email address so I can send you updates about exciting things happening in my world.

Want to be removed from this list? Click unsubscribe at the bottom of any newsletter or send me an email. I would hate to see you go, but I’m not your captor.

In addition, my newsletters do send a message back to MailerLite when you open them. This helps me to better design my future content and find out what resonates with readers. I view and store the statistics about whether or not you’ve opened the newsletters.

Contact Forms

Contact forms on this site allow you to send me messages. Those messages (along with your email address, ip address, and your name) are processed through my website and sent to me via email. Some contact forms flow through Mailerlite as well and allow readers to opt in and out of lists as well as fun stuff, like joining a raffle. They are also stored on my website for use in case of a failure in the email system. And who doesn’t have a Plan B, C, and D in case the first few plans fail?

Cookies

I use cookies on this Site to personalize the Site. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a Web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. For example, if you personalize a web page, or navigate within a site, a cookie helps the site to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies delivering relevant content, eases site navigation, and so on. When you return to the Web site, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the site’s features that you customized.

You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Unlike the cookies little Miss Red was taking to the unintended Big Bad Wolf in Gramma’s clothing, these cookies cannot be dunked in coffee or milk.

General

The forms on this site are not intended to be used by anyone under the age of 16 without parental consent. Even though they are some of my favorite people ever. Talk to your grownups first, then bring them along for the scary fun.

This Site is hosted and owned in the United States. By providing your information to the Site, you are consenting to the transfer of your information to the United States for processing and maintenance in accordance with this Privacy Notice. You are also consenting to the application of United States law in all matters concerning the Site.

I may occasionally update this privacy statement. When I do, I will also revise the “last updated” date at the top of the privacy statement. I encourage you to periodically review this privacy statement to stay informed about how I am helping to protect the personal information I collect. Your continued use of the service constitutes your agreement to this privacy statement and any updates.
